Tesla’s latest model announcements may come with a click bait.
When the updated S and X models were revealed last week, their standout feature was a yoke-style steering wheel devoid of control rods. The unusual design had previously been shown on several Tesla prototypes, but never used in a production model. Needless to say, this is getting a lot of attention in the automotive press.
Tesla’s website says it provides “the ultimate goal of driving: no rods, no shifting.” The Model S is the best car to drive and the best car to drive ”.
Elon Musk explained that cars can “guess” which direction you want to go, and the transmission selector has been moved to the center touchscreen when you absolutely have to use it. The vehicles are also offered with optional full autonomous driving capability from Tesla, which currently offers some level of active driving assistance, but will eventually be able to become fully autonomous, according to Musk.
The “wheel” has attracted interest from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which said it was contacting Tesla for more information.

However, this may not be the only one available. By modifying the source code of an image from inside Tesla’s mainstream website, auto store The Drive discovered that another was hidden on the website that represented him with a traditional round wheel.
It still has no stems, and the buttons on the spokes, which apparently control the turn signals, horn, and lights, look identical to those on the yoke.

Following the report on his discovery, the image was completely deleted by Tesla, who did not comment on his revelation. Currently, there is no mention of a steering wheel on the booking page, which announces that the first deliveries will begin in March, although Musk has said production is already underway and shipments will begin in February.
