Finally, there has been a major development in the creation of the next television adaptation of the Halo video game franchise by Showtime. We still do not know when the first will be presented, but we are finally ready to meet Master Chief.
The mysterious masked figure, which is at the center of the video game franchise, was chosen by the network. According to Entertainment Weekly, Orange is the New Black and the alum of the American deities, Pablo Schreiber, will occupy this position. The description of the character reads: "The most advanced warrior of the Earth in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of extraterrestrial worlds engaged in destruction of humanity. "
It remains to be seen if fans will ever see Schreiber's face. In games, the identity of Chief remains a mystery. Although you may assume that this would change for the series, Showtime's programming president, Gary Levine, had previously said if Chief would unveil the mask "is a key issue and an important part of our series".
Schreiber is not the only new distribution, however. EW reports that the newcomer, Yerin Ha, was also added to the series as Quan Ah, "a cunning, audacious 16-year-old man from the outer colonies who meets Master Chief at a crucial time for both of them."
Halo is scheduled to begin production this fall in Budapest, with Kyle Killen and Steven Kane as co-hosts. Otto Bathurst, Black Mirror alum, signed to direct and produce the series. Showtime describes his vision of Halo as "weaving deeply drawn personal stories with action, adventure and a vision of the richly imagined future".
Disclosure: Showtime is a wholly owned subsidiary of CBS Corporation. CBS is the parent company of GameSpot.
