Kayvon Beykpour said in an interview in March with The edge that Twitter knows that TweetDeck still exists and that the company is working on a “top-to-bottom” overhaul. Today Twitter posted a single image of the reworked application, explaining that this is a taste of the tests with a few “randomly chosen” people in the United States, Canada and Australia. If you can’t wait to see it yourself, Jane Manchun Wong explains how you can register for the test now with a simple browser tweak.
We’re testing this preview with a small group of randomly selected people in the United States, Canada, and Australia to begin with. If you are eligible, you will see an invitation in TweetDeck to register.

Tweet Deck Powers The edge, and many others, so any change is likely to meet a skeptical audience of power users, but so far it is difficult to find the improvements. The appeal of the app is its column views which haven’t changed much over the past decade, but the layout of the screenshot is very different from what we’re used to, and in the left column, a button promotes decks to sort different types of content. Otherwise, it looks a lot more like the standard Twitter view, which is not why I am using TweetDeck.
In a tweet todayBeykpour said the new test features for TweetDeck “include a full Tweet Composer, new advanced search features, new column types, and a new way to group columns into clean workspaces.” Twitter may have more reason to hope the upgrades will be successful – rumors have said the company is considering charging for them in the future.
To try out the “new TweetDeck”, just follow Jane’s instructions. Open TweetDeck in your browser, then go to Developer Tools (if you are using Chrome), open the console tab, copy and paste document.cookie = “tweetdeck_version = beta” then press Enter and reload the page.
We’ll take these lessons into account when we explore what TweetDeck might look like in Twitter’s subscription offerings later. We’ll have more to share soon as we learn from these tests.
