The Twins continued their run on Monday afternoon, passing the Tigers with a 4-3 victory before spending two difficult weeks on their schedule.
After starting his afternoon with end-to-end shots, Jake OdorizzI gave Miguel Cabrera a dinger, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Twins were quickly responding in the top of the second, scoring two points on a circuit of Adiranza Ehire towards one of the deepest parts of the stadium in the center.
Things worked out for both fouls and Jake Odorizzi handled his four runs well. He had some help with this pretty Jake Cave plug:
Things started to get hairy in the fifth for Odorizzi (as they often seem to do). He conceded singles to the first three batters of the heat, the last of which tied the score to two. After a sacrificial offensive and a sacrificial volley, the Tigers had taken a 3-2 lead. Odorizzi managed to get out of the inning with no more damage, but the Twins followed with four innings to go.
The Twins would make noise with two outs in the seventh inning. After Gregory Soto withdrew two hitters with four throwers, Jorge Polanco scored a single in the center and Nelson Cruz put one on the field so that another single could put two men. Unfortunately, Eddie Rosario struck a lazy ball to the left field to end the inning.
The Twins had an even better chance in eighth, while Lamonte Wade Jr. hit for Willians Astudillo and made a pass in advance. After Luis Arraez threw a single in the middle of the field, the Twins had runners at first and second, without anyone being absent. The LOBster touched both Cron and Jake Cave, who each hit on land outside the strike zone. Ehire Adrianza managed to reach the base on a single infield to charge the bases, and got Gardy out to get Buck Farmer out of the game.
The former manager of the Twins chose to play the confrontations and bring the southpaw Matt Hall face Max Kepler. Apparently, Gardy forgot to check Kepler's number to know that Max had hit left-handed better than right-handers this season. The German sensation cut a single to the left field to make two points and brings his RBI total against left-handed to 36, the second highest among the left-handed hitters behind just Cody Bellinger (37).
With a 4-3 lead, the Twins turned to Sergio Romo in the bottom of the eighth. Romo s' installed in the order and gave way to Taylor Rogers for the ninth. The close Twins did the same in the last leg of the game, giving the Twins their eighth win in the last nine games.
NOTES:
Mitch Garver left the game in the fourth inning after taking a coarse end of his receiver's mask. Astudillo came into play for Garver, but losing Garv Sauce for a long time would be a blow for the Twins trying to lock the division.
The Twins were beaten by the 14-9 Tigers, but they only managed two extra hits and two hits with runners in the goal position.
The Twins now have a six-game lead over the Indians, who will face the White Sox tonight.
