Twins put Eddie Rosario on categorical waivers

The Twins placed the outfielder Eddie Rosario on absolute exemptions, Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports. The club previously tried to find a taker for Rosario in a trade, but were unable to do so, according to Rosenthal.

Rosario has until Wednesday to join another team on waivers. Otherwise, the Twins might not bid Rosario or try to re-sign him for less than the $ 8.6 million to $ 12.9 million he expects to receive in arbitration this winter. Rosario is expected to go through arbitration for the last time in the coming months.

Rosario, 29, has spent his entire career with the Twins, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2010 draft. He’s been generally a productive hitter since his debut in 2015, evidenced by his .277 / .310 line. /. 478 out of 2,830 appearances at the dish. Rosario has even hit at least 24 home runs on three occasions, including a career-best 32 in 2019, but his somewhat above-average offensive output might not be enough to keep him in the Twins’ uniform. The club touted the field outlook Alex Kirilloff and Trevor Larnach close to MLB prep, which is no surprise that he looks set to cut the cord on Rosario.

Assuming he hits free agency next, Rosario should attract a decent amount of interest in the free market. He is said to be one of the more attractive outfielders capable of making turns behind players like George springer, Marcell Ozuna and Michael brantley, which should win much richer offers. Teams that need help on the pitch but aren’t willing to spend on any of these three could pivot to Rosario.
