Twins select LHP Cade Povich with pick # 98

There seems to be a theme today, as the Twins plunged back into the same well for their third-round pick from which their second-round selection was drawn, a college southpaw from the Big Ten. In this case, the appeal is directed to Cade Povich of Nebraska.

Povich is a four-year-old junior and was also used as a starting pitcher. Like Steven Hajjar, he also started a game in which his team beat the Gophers hands down – maybe the Twins didn’t send their scouts very far. Povich, like Hajjar, also finished the season with 81 innings recorded and an ERA of just over three.

Here’s Povich in action:

The Atlanta Braves drafted one of Povich’s 59th-seeded teammates, as a solid pitching trio provided Nebraska with an excellent overall season in 2021.

There aren’t many screening reports available on the free side of the pay walls, so we’ll just have to believe Povich will be good.
