A Twitch streamer saw a potential windfall go down the drain after folding a pack of streaming Pokemon cards without first looking at what’s inside. Earlier this week, streamer Wesbtw hosted a Twitch stream in which he opened booster packs for the new Pokemon TCG expansion “Vivid Voltage”. As part of the flow, Wesbtw offered to fold a pack of cards if someone donated $ 50. When someone accepted this offer after nearly 3 hours of streaming, Wesbtw discovered that the pack contained a rare Pikachu VMAX “Rainbow Rare” card. The embarrassing moment and its aftermath can be seen in the clip here.
As seen in the clip, the card has a permanent crease in them which greatly reduces their value. If he hadn’t folded the package, the Pikachu VMAX card would have sold for up to $ 200 unrated or $ 1,500 if rated. The streamer experienced a major meltdown afterward, swearing and rolling on the ground even as his subscribers gave his channel gift subscriptions.
These days, Pokémon cards sell for a lot of money. While the Pokémon card market is primarily focused on old cards (a recent first edition Charizard card selling for over $ 180,000), newer cards sell for a lot of money as well. The more expensive cards in current packs tend to be cards that feature popular characters or are rare variations of popular competitive cards.
