The first streamer to be featured on PogChamp is fighting game player Kenny “UnRoolie” McWild Kotaku Remarks. As such, it looks like Twitch will be using PogChamp to highlight members of their community.
Twitch removed PogChamp earlier this week after the emote’s original face, Ryan “Gootecks” Gutierrez, called for further “civil unrest” after a woman died during violent protests on Capitol Hill. “We want the feeling and use of Pog to endure – its meaning is much greater than the person depicted or the image itself – and it has a big place in Twitch culture,” Twitch written at the time. “However, we cannot in good conscience continue to allow the use of the image.”
Before Twitch removed it completely, some streamers banned PogChamp from their own channels. Twitch viewers use the emote to express their excitement. Whenever something awesome happened on a popular stream, the live chat would fill with Gutierrez’s face. In the future, you might see a completely different face flooding your screen when a streamer breaks a world record.
