The company made the decision, which has since become controversial, after determining that his messages posed “a risk of incitement to violence”.
In a long Twitter thread on Wednesday, Dorsey said the platform “faces an extraordinary and untenable circumstance, requiring us to focus all of our actions on public safety. The offline harm resulting from online speech is clearly real, and what drives our policy and enforcement above all else. “

Dorsey also noted that in the long run the actions of Twitter and other companies would be “destructive to the lofty purpose and ideals of the open Internet.”

The CEO of Twitter further said he is funding an initiative called Bluesky, aimed at creating an “open decentralized standard for social media,” adding that it is still in development.
