Twitter permanently banned the account of My Pillow CEO Mike Lindell after continuing to perpetuate the baseless claim that Donald Trump won the 2020 US presidential election.
Twitter has decided to ban Lindell, who founded the bedding company My Pillow, due to “repeated violations” of her civic integrity policy, a spokesperson said in a statement. The policy was implemented last September and aims to tackle disinformation.
It was not immediately clear what messages from Lindell on Twitter triggered the suspension of her account.
Lindell, a Trump supporter, continued to insist that the presidential election was rigged even after U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration began.
Large retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond and Kohl’s have said they will stop selling My Pillow products, Lindell said.
Lindell also faces potential litigation from Dominion Voting Systems for claiming that their voting machines played a role in the alleged voter fraud. He had also urged Trump to declare martial law in Minnesota to secure his ballots and overturn the election.
Following the assault on the US Capitol earlier this month, Twitter banned more than 70,000 accounts for sharing disinformation. Trump, who had urged the crowd, also saw his account permanently suspended.
