There was a lot of criticism about the Bears’ offensive game plan in their 34-14 loss to the Rams in Sunday Night Football, where Chicago’s passing attack was non-existent.
The Bears hit the ball with running back David Montgomery and relied on short, quick passes from quarterback Andy Dalton. Dalton’s longest pass attempt was 16 yards and he didn’t complete a pass for more than 10 yards. In fact, only 5 of his 38 attempts were for 10 yards or more.
There was a lot of frustration on the part of the fans. But there was a quote from wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, who signed with the Bears this offseason, about the Bears approaching Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey that was quite revealing. In fact, you could say it was a direct shot at Nagy.
“He’s a unique player, All-Pro, Pro Bowler, instinctive, especially in short spaces. And we did not go beyond 10 meters, it fell directly into his hands, I have the impression. “
As you can imagine, Twitter reacted a lot to Goodwin’s comments, making many wonder if Nagy ever lost the dressing room after week 1. Many praise Goodwin for his honesty, which highlights the bad offensive plan. by Nagy.
As cynical as I was towards Nagy I didn’t think we would have quotes like this after week 1. https://t.co/XEN97GUeHE

Week one #mattnagy and the locker room already questioning the game plan publicly… what’s the over under on when he totally loses the locker room @olin_kreutz @sportsmockery @mspears96 https://t.co/X0Q9JkU5MF

A player one game in to this system recognizes the weak route tree in this offense. @NextGenStats showed it perfectly on @AllenRobinson.
Why sign fast receivers? https://t.co/HbEiQVgmvC

I didn’t have one game to lose the locker room but hey it was that bad – if they lose on Sunday then it’s fields by week three and no trust in HC. https://t.co/znFlrzCesX

Goodwin is becoming a favorite player of mine solely because of his honesty here. https://t.co/5KLgbThTQr

Preach Marquise
This whole operation is nuts. Get Fields in, we have the talent to be a competitive team. https://t.co/SQ1l4weQEz

Last year it was Nick Foles on the sidelines, now it’s Marquise Goodwin doing it publicly.

This feels like a direct shot at Matt Nagy.
And if Goodwin was willing to publicly make this comment, he’s probably not the only player in that locker room that feels this way. https://t.co/iyfjxn03em

It's almost like we played right into the defense's strengths.
Also, save me the "Andy Dalton can't throw deep" nonsense. He's done it plenty his entire career.
THE. SCHEME. SUCKS. https://t.co/weXZVvDf6X

When your newly-signed WRs are already subtweeting your offensive scheme (and QB by proxy), you know the locker room wants to see Fields.

The offense is already turning on Nagy and Dalton.
We all knew this is how it would go down.
Marquis Goodwin and Damiere Byrd running routes 5 yards from the line of scrimmage for body throws should end the playcaller up in the penitentiary. https://t.co/PzJ8Ts8uiv
