Marina Rodriguez further validated herself as a strawweight contender to watch with a main event victory over Mackenzie Dern on Saturday at UFC Fight Night 194.
Rodriguez (16-1-2 MMA, 5-1-2 UFC) improved to 2-0 in the UFC headliners when she earned a unanimous decision victory over Dern (11-2 MMA, 6-1 UFC) in the elite 115-pound fighters match, held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Check out the main reactions on Twitter to Rodriguez’s victory over Dern at UFC Fight Night 194 below.
Knee hard for Rodriguez’s body. Dern climbing up a leg and seeking an indent against the cage, elbow hard to Rodriguez’s body. # UFCVegas39

Rodriguez makes it look easy in the clinch… could be a big deal for Dern.
– caposa (@Grabaka_Hitman) October 9, 2021
Nothing impactful landed in the first round. Rodriguez seems to land a bit more and probably takes it 10-9 # UFCVegas39

At least Rodriguez has proven my clinch reads fine as she wins round one, but the craziest thing is, Dern can still win with just one ground trade if she gets it. # UFCVegas39

R2 for Dern: failed throw, curls down, reverse. Hey, whatever brings you there. # UFCVegas39

Terrifying Words: “Mackenzie Dern, Knee On Her Stomach”
– MMA mania (@mmamania) October 9, 2021
It’s not exactly what Maia would do to get withdrawals, but the principle is the same: cause a reaction to a withdrawal attempt (even if it fails), then use scrambling for a leg entanglement to force the jiu. -jitsu in combat.

I feel like Marina did well to survive all of this
– caposa (@Grabaka_Hitman) October 9, 2021
That arm was about to come home with Dern! Perform grappling trades and a big GnP! 1-1 going into 3rd for me. # UFCVegas39

Good Lord Dern is magical on the pitch. That transition to the rear mount was crazy # UFCVegas39
– John Gooden (@JohnGoodenUK) October 9, 2021
Man. It’s a fascinating fight.

These transitions! Sweeping leg attack to the crucifix to mount. High level! # UFCVegas39
– Alan Jouban (lanAlan Jouban) October 9, 2021
Dern should honestly think about picking up and pulling the guard
– caposa (@Grabaka_Hitman) October 9, 2021
This main event between these ladies got me on the edge of my seat @ufc
– Raquel Pennington (@RockyPMMA) October 9, 2021
I have to see Marina vs Joanna at some point
– Belal Muhammad (@ bullyb170) October 9, 2021
Telling Dern that she needs the next two rounds is great training. It sounds so basic, but you don’t always get it, even at UFC level. # UFCVegas39
– Scott Fontana (@Scott_Fontana) October 9, 2021
Dern hitting offense and defense is garbage and she gassed! Valentina beats her easily!
– Mike “Biggie” Rhodes (@TeamRocBiggie) October 9, 2021
Kick to the lady bits is no fun. I can talk about it ️
– Laura Sanko (@laura_sanko) October 9, 2021
No level change from Mackenzie, she has to work with Khabib or cejudo
– Belal Muhammad (@ bullyb170) October 9, 2021
Rodriguez is really good at the forward blitz.
– Alan Jouban (lanAlan Jouban) October 9, 2021
Dern finishes first in the most unforeseen race of all time!
– Luke Thomas (@lthomasnews) October 9, 2021
Holy shit !!!! Just when you think one is over! Dern turned around. No more time on the clock and she would’ve had that arm bar @ufc
– Raquel Pennington (@RockyPMMA) October 9, 2021
I can’t believe how well Mackenzie Dern got her way into the ground battle she wanted after being dominated at the feet. Doesn’t she care to win this fight and yet she still feels like she could?
– Ben Fowlkes (@benfowlkesMMA) October 9, 2021
We often use the phrase “striker versus grappler” a little too often, but for this game it couldn’t be more precise. # UFCVegas39
– Farah Hannoun (@Farah_Hannoun) October 9, 2021
Some feints would have done well Dern in this fight. Too many predictable chases and attacks for Rodriguez to read and cut angles out of harm’s way. Fun fight again. Both ladies showed serious threats in their two worlds of experience # UFCVegas39
– Aljamain Sterling (@funkmasterMMA) October 9, 2021
Rodriguez ET Dern’s best opinion on this. I will look at Rodriguez as the title challenger. It is legitimate. Dern… remember, another five years in MMA. Cardio held up. Competitor. Improved strike defense. She is 28 years old. What does she look like at 30? 32? Good service to both of you.
