Phil Davis warmly welcomed Yoel Romero to the Bellator with a victory in the main event on Saturday at the Bellator 266.
Davis (23-6 MMA, 10-3 BMMA), a former Bellator light heavyweight champion, showed he was still very relevant in the title photo when he earned a split decision victory over Romero ( 13-6 MMA, 0-1 BMMA), making his expected promotional debut at the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.
Check out the main reactions on Twitter to Davis’ victory over Romero at the Bellator 266 below.
Yoel Romero is set to make his Bellator debut… in the same building where he made his UFC debut over 8 * years ago. What are the chances? Phil Davis will probably be tougher than Clifford Starks (what a great card that was).

Yoel’s physique is finally starting to show signs of age. Looks like his body fat could be as high as 6 or even 7% at this point.

Yoel wastes a lot of moves

Davis 10-9… Strong kicks, controlled the tempo for the most part… But also a very typical Romero round # Bellator266

Davis doesn’t do much to militarize the pace so far.

20-18 Davis before the third.
Even if you manage to beat him on the cards, it’s so hard to look good against Phil Davis and he’s a perfect example. Romero offering virtually no offense.

Phil Davis may just have had the best lap of his career. He went through some trouble and found a terrific pace against Yoel Romero in R2. This kind of Mr. Wonderful is fun to watch.

Phil Davis here increasing the withdrawal stats on Romero in the third. I can’t hate this strategy.
– Ben Fowlkes (@benfowlkesMMA) September 19, 2021
Davis was kind of forgotten in the MMA headlines. He not only (most likely) won tonight, but he got stronger as the fight grew. He somewhat dominated Romero in wrestling and superior control. Perhaps his best win in years.

He’s the Phil Davis we all thought he could be!
– Derek Brunson (@DerekBrunson) September 19, 2021
I probably should have seen this coming? This was Phil Davis’ third fight since Yoel Romero’s last fight in March 2020.
Romero was then still 42 years old; he is 44 years old now. Father’s time is undefeated after all, and he’s been helped by an 18-month layoff here. # Bellator266

Yoel Romero has given up 8 combined eliminations in his entire Strikeforce / UFC career, yielding 5 to Phil Davis in three rounds tonight.
– Aaron Bronsteter (@aaronbronsteter) September 19, 2021
It seems Romero didn’t know that tonight’s fight was only 3 rounds. I do not know what to say.
– Luke Thomas (@lthomasnews) September 19, 2021
Yoel is right, it should have been 5 laps
– caposa (@Grabaka_Hitman) September 19, 2021
This judge is criminal! 29-28 Romero tf….
