Twitter says GOP MP’s account lockdown was the result of ‘improper enforcement action’

Twitter said on Wednesday that the brief lockdown of a GOP congressman’s account was the result of “improper enforcement action.”

Representative Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), A congressional rookie who recently said she wanted to carry her Glock pistol in the Capitol, reported on Instagram Wednesday that she had received a week-long ban from posting on his account.

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday afternoon that the site’s content moderation team “took incorrect enforcement action” in response to one of the MP’s tweets, and rectified the decision by unblocking Boebert’s account and putting a warning on the tweet in question. .

“The Tweet in question is now tagged in accordance with our civic integrity policy. It will not be necessary to delete the Tweet and the account will not be temporarily locked out,” the Twitter spokesperson said.

The incident appeared to revolve around a January 9 tweet in which Boebert falsely accused the Democratic National Committee (DNC) of rigging the 2020 election. The tweet is now tagged with a content warning from Twitter that prevents users to respond or interact with the message.

Boebert was recently involved in tensions that erupted between Capitol Police and some Republican lawmakers who argued over the use of metal detectors outside the House chamber in the wake of the violent insurgency. Boebert was seen by a reporter activating the metal detector and refusing to return his bag for inspection.
