Twitter will notify you if you “ like ” misleading tweets

Twitter started reporting tweets for disputed and potentially misleading content this year ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Once the feature is in place, the website will show you a warning whenever you try to retweet or quote a post that has been labeled as such in an attempt to curb the spread of disinformation. Now the social network has extended feature so that you also get a warning if you try to ‘like’ a disputed tweet. By pressing the heart-shaped button on a post that has been tagged as misleading, a prompt with a “Learn More” button will appear.

Jane Manchun Wong, an experimental features researcher on the app, discovered the extended feature earlier this month. The tweets she tested, which were linked to the election, showed a warning that “official sources may not have called the race when this was tweeted.”
