(FOX5) Two Las Vegas residents were among dozens of prominent parents, university leaders, and coaches in the university accused of corruption.
"They displayed their wealth, sparing no expense to trick the system so they could prepare their children with the best education possible with money," said FBI Special Agent Joseph R. Bonavolonta, at a press conference.
Gamal Abdelaziz, who is more familiar with the Aziz family name, is a former casino executive who stepped down as president of Wynn Macau, Limited in September 2016.
Prosecutors said they thought Aziz had conspired to bribe the deputy sports director at the USC in order to "designate his daughter as a rookie in the basketball team". The court documents show that Aziz paid at least $ 300,000 to achieve this goal.
While Aziz's daughter had registered for USC in the fall of 2018, she did not join the basketball team, according to the complaint.
Prosecutors have accused Elizabeth Kimmel, a Las Vegas resident, in the mass indictment. Kimmel owns and is the president of a media company.
Prosecutors said Kimmel had used bribery to bring his daughter to Georgetown as a tennis player and his son to USC as a rookie.
Kimmel's daughter graduated in the spring of 2017 but has never played tennis. His son entered the USC in March 2018, according to the complaint.
The Federal Court records show that Aziz appeared before a judge on Tuesday afternoon but did not plead.
He was sentenced to appear before a judge in Boston on March 29.
