Two Namco Classics Join Hamster’s Arcade Archive This Week

@DeathByLasagna This one is an emulation while that of the Namco museum is a port. Traditionally, this means things like the older models don’t work successfully in the latter, but I haven’t personally dug into the Pac-Man port on Switch and just casually played it a few times.

So this port is perhaps more accurate than it was in previous Namco museums, which apart from the 50th anniversary collection on XB / GCN / PS2 which featured emulation by Digital Eclipse, have always been ports going back to the original Playstation line.

But with Hamster still on the path to emulation and with its reputation for precise emulation with the Arcade Archives line, you are assured that this one will perform exactly as it should.

That said, if you’re a casual Pac-Man player and already own the Namco Museum, I don’t see you making much by double dipping for the utmost precision when the Namco Museum looks, feels and plays as one. waits for Pac-Man.

The only thing you gain is the confidence that any old Pac-Man model will perform as it should, as ports typically lack some of the nuances of ghosting behavior and break those older models.

Edit: And this can be great for flip grip owners. I remember sort of a problem trying to use Namco Museum with this (I think the screen turned exactly opposite to the other vertical arcade versions on the NS, leaving the game upside down ).
