Two new models of Nintendo Switch would have gone into production

Nintendo had a lot of games to show at this year's E3, but there was no question of new hardware during the event, despite earlier reports that new Switch models were in preparation for. At present, the Wall Street Journal – which also initially reported that such devices were in the works – indicates that the new Switch models have come into production in Southeast Asia.

Apparently, the company is dislodging its production out of China because of the ongoing conflict between it and the United States. Not only are the two new models produced here, but the current model is also moving into the new location, likely in anticipation of potential US tariffs on imports from China.

The report lacks some details about the new hardware, but it indicates that one of the two new models will look like the one we have now, but with improved specifications. The other will be cheaper and will have a new appearance, although there is no clear indication of what this might mean. Previous reports have suggested that Nintendo could remove Joy-Con from the cheapest variant, by integrating the controls into the main body of the console.

On top of that, the report mentions that Nintendo wants to have enough units to sell in the US when they come to market, but it is not clear when it could happen. The company had some difficulties in responding to demand during the first few months of the switch's life. So it makes sense to try to prevent a similar situation this time around.
