Uber separates from his chief operating officer and marketing director less than a month after his tough start on the stock market.
The CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, told his employees Friday in an email that he was considering getting more involved in daily operations now that the initial public offering of shares has been completed. . He announced that Barney Harford, director of operations and Rebecca Messina, director of marketing, would leave.
"There's never really a good time to announce departures or changes like this, but with the IPO behind us, I felt it was a good time to simplify our organization and prepare ourselves for the future, "Khosrowshahi said in an email to employees, seen by the Washington Post.
The company's global armories and product distribution teams will now report directly to Khosrowshahi. The CEO also announced plans to bring together the marketing, communications and policy teams.

"It is becoming increasingly clear that it is crucial for us to have a coherent and unified voice for consumers, partners, the press and policy makers," he said.
Harford thanked Khosrowshahi in a tweet on Friday.
"Thanks to Dara Khosrowshahi for the opportunity that has come forward in recent years and to the Uber team for being such an amazing and challenging team to work with," wrote Harford. "It was an honor."
Shares of the San Francisco-based company have struggled since its IPO last month. As a publicly traded company, the company experienced strong revenue growth in the first quarter, as well as losses of $ 1 billion. The stock closed Friday down 76 cents, or 1.7%, to $ 44.16. It was made public at $ 45 per share.

Harford was appointed to the COO position in December 2017. However, Harford had some trouble after being accused of making insensitive remarks to the race, the Washington Post reported. An investigation was launched by Uber last summer. Harford promised to take awareness training. Uber spokesman Noah Edwardsen told the Washington Post that Harford's departure was not related to the investigation.
Messina was hired by Uber last year. Khosrowshahi announced the promotion of Jill Hazelbaker, Senior Vice President of Corporate Policy and Communications.
