The troubling accounts were included in the 2013 to 2016 documents that were leaked to two campus publications earlier this month.

One of them, "Phi Psi Historical Archives", of 117 pages, included jokes about rape and racist tropes among the pages of the minutes of fraternity meetings and hunting lists at treasure.

The documents also included rough descriptions of sexual encounters and hazing, as well as references to the "rape loft" and "rape tunnel" of another fraternity.

The reports swept over Pennsylvania's private liberal arts college and led the students to organize a sit-in at Phi Psi. Protesters arrived on Saturday with a list of demands, including the dissolution of the chapters of Phi Psi and Delta Upsilon of Swarthmore, the other group cited in the documents. This fraternity said in a statement that she was not aware of any former member having used the terms "rape tunnel" and "attic of rape victims", although these terms were attributed to the group in the documents.

The protesters also called for the end of Swarthmore's construction leases to fraternities.

Protesters want fraternity homes to join groups historically marginalized by fraternities, such as colored students, students with disabilities and LGBTQ students.

In social media videos, protesters applauded the two events that followed one another on Tuesday night.

Delta Upsilon made its announcement first on a Facebook page that seems to belong to the fraternity.

Swarthmore President Valerie Smith condemned the documents and suspended all fraternity activities pending the results of an investigation to determine whether current students were involved in the described behavior.

She also said that a working group would continue to make recommendations to improve campus culture, including recommendations for fraternal buildings.
