Lillington, North Carolina – Two teenagers have been found unharmed after family, friends and concerned crews searched Raven Rock State Park. They were found a mile and a half from Campbell Creek Trail, having gotten lost trying to find their car in the dark.
A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old named Ahmad Maurice Jones went out for a hike around 7:40 p.m. on Saturday.
Their parents last heard from them at 9:40 p.m., when the teens texted they were on their way back to their vehicle – but their cellphones were dying.
The teens were at the time on the Campbell Creek Loop, which is 4.5 miles long. The trail is often used to visit Lanier Falls on the Cape Fear River. The water level is low and debris is present from the heavy rains.
The search began shortly before 10 p.m. Teams searched by helicopter, raft down the river, and on foot through all of the park’s trails. Friends and family of the teens were involved in the ground search, as well as canine search teams.
