A former model arrested in California following the murder of a psychologist last month appeared in court in Las Vegas on a murder charge the same day that an alleged accomplice was returned to the police, announced Monday the authorities.
Kelsey Nichole Turner, 25, "categorically denies any role in the death of Dr. Burchard," said his lawyer, Brian James Smith, to the Associated Press. Turner was arrested on March 21 in Stockton, Calif., And was transferred into custody on Friday in Clark County Jail in Las Vegas. She is detained without bail.
Smith said a judge scheduled Saturday, June 3, a preliminary hearing of evidence in the murder of Thomas Kirk Burchard, 71, of Salinas, California.
Also on Saturday, Diana Nicole Pena, 30, returned to Las Vegas detectives after being named in a warrant that charges him with murder and conspiracy in Burchard's death, said police officer Larry Hadfield.
A third suspect, Jon Logan Kennison, is still wanted for murder and conspiracy. Hadfield said Kennison is 27 years old.
Pena is expected Tuesday in a Las Vegas court. His lawyer, Jess Matsuda, was on trial in another case on Monday and was not available to comment immediately.
The case involving the death of a semi-retired child psychiatrist in California amid allegations that a former Playboy Italia magazine model and Maxim and his roommates had killed him sparked a interest in the media.
Burchard's body was found on March 7 in the trunk of Turner's car in the desert near Las Vegas, a few days after the police said he had paid him the rent of a house in Las Vegas, according to court documents.
Turner was arrested on March 21 in Stockton, California, and is now held without bail at Clark County Jail in Las Vegas.
The Clark County coroner found that Burchard had succumbed to head injuries after being hit repeatedly with an unidentified object leaving a single trace of what the police had called.
Police said Burchard's longtime girlfriend, Judy Earp, Calif., Had reported texting him on March 2 from Las Vegas and missed her planned return to Salinas two days later.
