“As a Georgia resident and business owner, I’ve been here a few times with the anti-abortion bill and the LGBTQ discrimination bill,” Perry said in his point-of-sale statement. “They all sent a shock wave across Georgia and the country but none of them succeeded.”

The star then called on the Justice Department to look into the new law, which was passed by Governor Kemp last Thursday after quickly passing through the state legislature.

Perry’s comments echo those of President Joe Biden who also tied the law to apartheid-era politics.

“This is Jim Crow in the 21st century. This has to end,” Biden said in a written statement.

“Republicans across the state rushed through non-US law to deny people the right to vote. This law, like so many others being pursued by Republicans in states across the country, is a blatant attack on the Constitution and on good conscience, ”Biden said.
