Tyler Perry received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and he decided to use the experience, via a special BET, to help educate those who remain skeptical about taking the vaccine.
In one CBS this morning In Tuesday’s interview, the media mogul said health officials asked him to take photos in order to encourage other suspicious people. He said he was okay as long as he could ask medical experts questions for a TV special documenting the moment.
“If you look at our history in this country, the experience of Tuskegee, Henrietta Lacks, it raises flags for us as African Americans. So I understand why there is healthy skepticism about the vaccine,” he said. Perry told Gayle King.
“I know you are definitely under 65,” King noted. “But they were like, ‘If Tyler Perry gets it, this will send a strong message. “” He accepted.
Perry explained that he had questions about the technology for developing the vaccine and said, “I didn’t really feel like I could trust him. But once I got all the information, discovered the researchers, I was very, very happy. “
Perry said he took the Pfizer vaccine. “I took my first on January 4 and took the second yesterday,” he said on Tuesday. “I had no reaction to the first photo. This photo I just took yesterday, I woke up with aches and pains. But I took Advil about an hour ago, and I feel good now. “
