The media mogul recently appeared on CBS this morning to chat with co-host Gayle King about her experience receiving the two injections of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, after health officials asked her to take it to encourage confidence.

“I took my first one on January 4 and took the second one yesterday,” he explained. “I had no reaction to the first photo. This photo I just took yesterday, I woke up with aches and pains. But I took Advil about an hour ago and I feel good now. “
“I didn’t really feel like I could trust him,” Perry also said, discussing the science behind the vaccine. “But once I got all the information, the researchers found out, I was very, very happy.”

And now that Perry has educated himself and received the vaccine, he’s hosting a special on BET this Thursday night at 9 p.m. EST called The COVID-19 vaccine and the black community: a special Tyler Perry.
“If you look at our history in this country, the experience of Tuskegee, Henrietta Lacks, it raises flags for us as African Americans,” Perry told King as he discussed the special, which will include his interview with medical experts. “So I understand why there is healthy skepticism about the vaccine.”

“I have a team that works for me, and it was largely African Americans who were all skeptical about the vaccine. When they were sitting in the room, working on the cameras and doing their hair and makeup … they were listening to all the news and by the time we got to the end they wanted to take it all. “
“It’s all about getting the information right and getting it from people you trust and understand. I think this latest administration did a lot of harm in eroding confidence in this vaccine. But the information I found was very helpful. “
