A piece of moon falling to the ground, weighing 5.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds), was auctioned in the United States for more than $ 600,000.
The Boston-based auction house, RR, said the winning bid was $ 612,500 for the lunar meteoroid in six pieces, which took the form of a puzzle and represented the complex of Tam Chok pagoda in the province of Ha Nam, Vietnam.
RR was expecting the lunar meteoroid to reach $ 500,000 at the auction.
The lunar meteorite was discovered last year in a remote region of Mauritania, northwestern Africa.
It is one of the largest lunar meteorites discovered because of its size and the presence of a "partially melted crust" caused by the enormous heat that burned the rock when it was fell to the ground.
