The Chinese economy grew at a slower pace than expected, at 6.5% in the third quarter, compared with the same period last year, the lowest growth since the global financial crisis, according to official data. published on Friday.
The data point to a modest slowdown in the world's second-largest economy, where government efforts to tackle debt risk are pushing for growth while a trade war with the United States threatens exports.
Experts polled by Reuters predict a GDP growth of 6.6% between July and September, a slight decrease from the previous quarter, while China posted growth of 6.7%.
The reading of annual GDP growth during the quarter is the lowest since the first quarter of 2009 during the global financial crisis.
On a quarterly basis, GDP grew 1.6% in the third quarter, compared to 1.8% from April to June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
Analysts had forecast 1.6% growth on a quarterly basis.
