Cheap Irish airline Ryanair will not be able to carry a free 10 kg bag on board, according to a new policy introduced on Thursday.

The new rules state that passengers wishing to carry a larger bag "out of a small personal bag" will be paid except they are among the priority passengers on board.

The cost of providing a priority service in the plane is 6 euros ($ 7). Passengers who have not chosen this service will have to pay 10 euros for an extra suitcase on board.

The new rules have angered social networking sites, with some users claiming they would no longer use Ryanair.

The company has had a difficult year after a wave of strikes in Europe. The company recorded a 7% drop in profits during the first half of the year, citing several reasons, including "widespread damage caused by strikes".
