Researchers have developed a high-tech vessel called Wall-E Hydro, designed to clean the oceans of wastes and toxic contaminants.
Donors can swim up to 16 hours, depending on a shipment, where they "eat" up to 1100 pounds of waste.
The device was developed by Dutch environmental technology company RanMarine, which hopes that drones will become a waste collection tool "before the tide, wind and currents can spread across the great ocean".
The Wasteshark waste treatment devices are deployed in Marina Marina after testing them in collaboration with a local partner, Ecocoast, last year.
Drones can pick up objects like plastic, floating debris, even exotic or invasive plants, as well as a deep litter beneath the surface.
Users control "WasteShark" via a remote control or iPad, and the traffic is tracked by the GPS signal.
WasteShark was equipped with an anti-collision system that uses laser imaging to identify nearby objects and adjust its position with the help of sensors.
A second model is independent of the first, which still requires humanitarian assistance, but is capable of completing certain tasks on its own.
WasteShark measures depth, salinity, chemical contamination, pH balance and temperature. And yet, it is used to clean garbage from rivers and harbors.
The company explained that the developed dronon poses no risk to the aquatic environment and does not harm fish and birds.
Prior to its Dubai deployment, the company had tested four WasteSharks models in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, two years ago.
