HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Director General and President of the Authority, received HE Philip Frin, US Consul General in Dubai. Khawla Al Muhairi, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Government Communications Sector, attended the meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer welcomed the Consul General of the United States to Dubai, welcoming the distinguished relations between the Authority and US companies and institutions working in the sectors of the United States. energy and water.
HE Al Tayer discussed the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Sovereign of Dubai, the Authority is working on the development of renewable and alternative energy sector and rationalizing the consumption of natural resources to promote sustainable development in the emirate. .
He explained that the Authority had a clear vision of achieving the objectives of the clean energy strategy by 2050, by guaranteeing its supplies through the diversification of the energy mix, in order to Include 75% clean energy From total energy production from clean energy in Dubai by 2050. Several projects and initiatives have been launched to achieve this goal. , including the solar energy complex Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with a capacity of 5,000 megawatts by 2030, including 4,000 megawatts with photovoltaic and 1,000 MW. With concentrated solar energy.
He pointed out that the fourth phase of the complex had a production capacity of 950 megawatts and will use three common techniques to produce clean energy: the first corresponds to 600 megawatt parabolic reflectors, a technology of energy 100 megawatt solar panels and 250 MW photovoltaic panels. According to the independent production system, it is the largest single solar energy investment project in the world, with a total investment of AED 16 billion. The phase includes the construction of the tallest solar tower in the world at 260 meters and the largest solar storage capacity of 15 hours, which will allow a 24 hour power generation.
He also referred to the proposed construction of a 250 megawatt hydroelectric power plant in the mountainous area adjacent to the Hatta Dam, which will benefit from pumping water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir (which will be constructed). As a water pump running on solar energy, which is cheaper than the price of the fuel used in the production of electricity, and which will benefit from the speed of water 's. flowing from the upper tank during the production of electricity and connected to the grid. The efficiency of the plant reaches 90% with immediate response to the energy demand within 90 seconds.
He added that the Authority was working to strengthen cooperation with US universities and research centers to keep abreast of the latest developments in the renewable energy, water, and energy sectors. of automation, artificial intelligence and Qin Block. The agreement protocol was signed with several American universities, including the University of California at Berkeley. To provide its distinguished employees with a master's degree in "Energy Systems and Technologies of the Future".
The discussions also addressed the International Universities Competition for the Design of Solar-Based Houses (Decathlon Solar – Middle East 2018) organized by the Authority from 14 to 29 November, as part of the International Solar Energy Conference. a partnership between Dubai's Supreme Council of Energy and the US Department of Energy, where the difference Youth and students who participate in it are using creativity and innovation to build and operate sustainable solar home models, cost-effective and energy efficient.
At the end of the visit, the US Consul expressed his thanks and gratitude to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Authority for their warm welcome and appreciated the facilities provided by DEWA to US companies operating in the area. 39; emirate.
