Witnesses: Clashes between supporters and police during the AEK Athens match against Ajax in the Champions League

Riot police clashed with supporters of Ajax Amsterdam during the 2-0 win of the Dutch Champions League team against AEK Athens in Greece.

Supporters of Greek clubs reportedly threw a rag on fire at the Dutch opponents' section while the photos showed police officers hitting fans of Ajax and the face of some fans covered in blood.

Ajax defender Mattes De Light ran to the Dutch fans to ask for calm.

The second half of the match was marked by new riots when firecrackers were fired among the crowd. Players on both sides were blinded by the smoke at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.

Ajax has managed to score two goals from former South American striker, Dusan Tadic, to qualify for the knockout stages, for the first time since 2005, and AEK Athens has reached the bottom of group E without any point.

Supporters of the balloon clashed Monday in the center of the country in anticipation of a Champions League match between the two fans, supporters of the local club Panathinaikos joining supporters of Ajax Amsterdam against those of the # 39; AEK.

Video clips on social networking sites showed large groups of hooded rioters marching through the streets of Athens with sticks and ready to fight. A commentator compared a section showing bullets exchanging firecrackers like a Harry Potter scene.
