LONDON (Reuters) – Manchester United have announced the possibility of activating a one – year extension of Spanish goalkeeper David De Chia 's contract, British media reported on Thursday.

De Chia's current contract with the club ends at the end of the season, which allows him to sign a contract with another club before January 1st.

The BBC said the decision still clouded the future of United's 28-year-old goalkeeper and the possibility of his leaving the team in the next transfer slot.

De Chia joined Manchester United in 2011, coming from Atletico Madrid and has won the title of player of the year in the English Premier League in four seasons over the last five seasons.

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho on Tuesday won the first-round win against the Young Boys in the Champions League, pointing out that he was the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment.

Sky Sports announced that negotiations are under way between De Chaya and United to enter into a new long-term contract with the team.
