The former Juventus striker and Chelsea striker, Gianluca Viali, revealed Monday that he had been battling cancer for nearly a year.
Aged 54, who scored 16 goals in 59 caps for the Italian team, he hoped his story would inspire a lot of people.

"I'm fine now, really well, it's been a year and now I'm back to have a wild body (jokingly), but I do not know how it's going to end yet."

"I wore a jacket under my shirt so that no one noticed anything," said the former striker, crowned with several titles including the Champions League with Juventus in 1996. "I was still the person that everyone knows.

Viali recently published his second book, "Goals, 98 + 1 story to meet the toughest challenges".

"He wants to inspire my stories of people who are at critical moments in their lives.I hope it will be a book kept by people at the bedside of the patient so that they can read a story or two before to go to bed or in the morning once they wake up. "

"The other keywords that emerged during the treatment are written on a yellow sticker hanging on the wall," Viali said. "We are the product of our ideas, it is important not to win, but to think as a winner."

"Life is made up of 10% of what happens to us and 90% of the way we handle the situation I hope my story will help others cope with what's going on the right way. "

Viale began his career at Cremonese (1980-1984) before settling in Sampdoria (1984-1992), where he won his first titles in Serie A, three Italian Cups and one European Cup.

In 1992, he moved to Juventus where he played four seasons (1992-1996), crowned the league in 1995 and the UEFA Champions League the following year (Juventus) before joining the Premiership with Chelsea .

After being crowned with Chelsea in 1997, his first title in 26 years, he became coach at the end of the following season, continuing to play, crowning the European Cup and the local League Cup, and then adding the England Cup in 2000 as a permanent coach.

He left Chelsea in September 2000 and followed a short training with Watford before being informed in 2002, one year after taking office.
