In an interview with Arab media, Adel Imam attacked the direction of the Cairo International Film Festival, noting that he did not prefer to attend his annual opening ceremony.
Adel Imam described the festival as a routine and that it "filled the employees".
"I really see that this festival is very routine and does not involve any kind of renewal and artistic diversity," he said. "I just think it's a job – it's an annual duty to accomplish – this is evident at opening ceremonies, closing ceremonies and events." And a subject.
"When I attend a festival put forward, my absence will give the opportunity to showcase the rising generation."
Adel Imam, 78, said that when he described the Cairo Film Festival as a "staff festival", he did not want to insult the institutions of his country, but rather tell the truth.
"Do you like to organize the concert in this very traditional way?", He asked. "Have not they seen the El Gouna Festival, its beauty and creativity, and why it took advantage of it? Why does not it imitate it?"
"I thank Festival President Majida Wasef for her invitation and all those present at the ceremony, and I assure everyone that I do not want to insult anyone, but that I am just saying what I feel.
"It's not up to me to propose solutions, but if I notice a development in the form of a festival or in the way creators deal with creators, I will certainly be delighted to attend, of course. As much as I was among those present at its first session. "
The Cairo International Film Festival paid tribute to the artist Adel Imam at its 23rd session in 1999, but did not attend.
The Cairo International Film Festival will close its 40th session on Friday 29 November.
Adel Imam wanted to attend his honor at the first edition of the 2017 El Gouna Film Festival. In his speech after receiving the award, Adel said: "I am a fan of festivals and without Najib Sawiris, my friend and his love will be frankly rewarded. "
