The Sharjah Book Authority yesterday concluded the activities of the "Publishers Conference" organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the sidelines of the Sharjah International Book Fair.
Sheikha Badour Al Qassimi, President of the United Arab Emirates Publishers Association, HE Hussain Bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, Hugo Sitters, Vice President of the International Federation of Publishers, attended the second and last day of the conference. HE Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, launched the conference with a speech: "The ministry's strategy aims to create a generation of reading and learning tools that are not limited to a book.Learning depends on various educational resources.It is imperative that publishing houses wishing to cooperate with the Ministry of Education contribute to the realization of its educational strategy and agenda. and improve the content to reach the standards of knowledge and learning, thus contributing to the end result of the wealth of knowledge and literature for learning.
"We firmly believe that local publishing houses have the opportunity to enter the world of digital educational production by producing digital educational materials that support the program and is an alternative to the traditional curriculum." "
Rashid Al Nuaimi, executive director of the media sector at the National Media Council, said: "This conference pays tribute to the UAE's achievements in the book industry and encourages publishers, writers and publishers. readers and strengthens its position in the global publishing market, which requires our support to support Arab publishers and enable them to strengthen their global presence in this vital sector. "In his speech, Al Nuaimi highlighted the the National Media Council's willingness to cooperate with the United Arab Emirates Publishers Association to support this industry, thereby contributing to the realization of the State's vision and strategy for building a a prosperous and sustainable future.
The first session of the conference, entitled "Encouraging Competition in Educational Publishing", was moderated by Jose Borgino, Secretary General of the International Union of Publishers, assisted by Wilmar Debgrund, President of the Educational Editions Forum. of the International Association of Publishers, and Rashid Al Kos, Executive Director of the Association of Arab Publishers; Publication Forum of the International Publishers Association.
The second session of the conference highlighted the publication of books by Arab children and young people. It was hosted by Andrea Sharp, director of the Hachet Rights Group on Children's Books, during which Ross Gansens, legal director of Kafis Books, and Manas Hattab of Jordan's "ABC" newspaper, Fadwa Bustani of the Egyptian House of Bustani, d. Aliazia Khalifa from the United Arab Emirates "Translation Al-Falak".
