For almost a decade, the Primera Liga championships between Barcelona and Real Madrid have been marked by the dramatic conflict between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But the new version of the game Clasico, scheduled for Sunday at Camp Nou Stadium in Barcelona, will miss them for the first time in nine years without a match and the first in eleven years without at least one of them.
The match brings this time Barcelona, second behind Atletico Madrid with 19 points and Real Madrid, eighth with 14 points.
The competition between Messi and Ronaldo was marked by a legendary turn in recent years between Larry Bird and Magic Johnson in the NBA and between Eryton Senna and Alan Prost in Formula 1 Grand Prix, Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield in boxing.
But Ronaldo left Real Madrid and joined Juventus during the summer transfer period.
Messi was also injured in the Barcelona match against Sevilla on Saturday and was confirmed out of action for about three weeks.
The match, still called "Classico Earth", will be replaced by Messi and Ronaldo.
Ronaldo left Manchester United for Real Madrid in July 2009 and this signing was an energetic attempt by Real to end Barcelona's domination of Spanish and European football.
With Ronaldo joining the Real, a new adventure for Real and a new era began in the history of Alcálcio games, where they gained another dimension.
Since then, in Messi's 32 matches with Ronaldo in various competitions, Messi has dominated in 14 games, while Ronaldo has led Real to win eight games and end ten draws.
In those 32 games, Messi scored 19 goals against 18 for Ronaldo, noting that some of those games have come to nothing, if not to maximize the players' legend.
During the last match between Messi and Ronaldo at Clasico matches on May 6, each scored a goal and ended the match with a 2-2 draw, knowing that Barcelona had won the title of champion of Spain in his favor before the match.
Now Camp Nou is the first course of this season. The meeting coincides with a real crisis for Real. The team is suffering from poor results for a number of reasons, including Ronaldo's lack of goals.
The start of Real was slow with new coach Julien Lopegeti, and if the "Royal" failed to get a positive result against Barcelona, the consequences could be serious for the former Spanish coach.
Lopegeti had a difficult time as coach of Real Madrid, a year that was nightmarish after leaving Spain on the eve of the 2018 World Cup in Russia after agreeing to lead Real Madrid .
After a long wait for the brand, tensions in the Spanish capital increased and another negative result at Camp Nou would have led to the departure of the coach.
