ZAGREB (Reuters) – Thousands of Croatians danced in central Zagreb in their national squad on Monday after winning the Davis Cup.

Marin Celic and his colleagues boarded a private bus connecting the airport to the heart of the capital and took place on a stage in the Pan-Jelacic Square to greet the public.

In front of a big screen, the players sang and danced with the crowds waved by the national flag.

"We are delighted to present this award to Croatia after proving to everyone that we are the best," said Schilic, of the stage, holding the trophy.

The victory over France 3-1 allowed Croatia to win its second Davis Cup title after defeating Slovakia in the 2005 final.

The victory also became Croatia's second encounter with France this year after a 4-2 defeat of France in the final of the Russian World Cup in July.

"We are proud of these players," said one of the Zagreb celebrants. They reacted to the defeat of our football team. "
