The Egyptian Minister of Tourism said that a significant recovery in the number of tourists would bring the sector's contribution to 15% of GDP this year.

The number of visitors has increased by about 40% compared to the end of September and, if this continues, the number of tourists will exceed 10 million for the first time since 2012.

"In 2017, we have reached about 7.5 million (visitors) since the beginning of 2018. The numbers are very good and the (growth) curve is very pronounced," Minister Rania al-Mashat told Reuters took office in January.

Although she did not foresee some figures, she added that tourism would contribute "more than 15% of GDP" this year after becoming the fastest growing sector in Egypt.
