Farmers Services Conducts 216,000 Farm Tours in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Farmers' Service Center has conducted more than 216,000 guiding tours to the emirate's farms during the last nine months of 2018. These tours and other services provided by the Center to farmers Abu Dhabi are proactive services aimed at developing the agricultural sector.

Orientation visits of extension engineers focus on farm monitoring, technical and advisory assistance to landowners and farmers, raising awareness of best agricultural practices through field visits and training workshops to raise awareness of good agricultural practices and optimal use of water, while farms applied to aquaculture systems are visited once a week according to the needs of the farm.

The Center provided intensive technical training to 25519 agricultural workers from the emirate of Abu Dhabi between early January and the end of September 2018. The total number of training courses amounted to about 1208 courses during the same period of this year. Agricultural training, where workers are trained in the correct methods of pest control, irrigation management and fertilization on the farm, methods of planting fruit trees, palm services and the production of dates, Integrated Palm Pest Management Program, Hydroponics and Good Agricultural Practices, Integrated Pest Management.

Pest control operations in agriculture constituted the largest part of the training courses for workers, ie 634 courses out of 1208, or 52.5% of the total training courses, ie 14590 agricultural workers. With 57% of all workers receiving training.

For palm trees, which are also proactively exploited, the Center is working to develop integrated palm pest management systems.
