Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Los Angeles Galaxy player, won the New Player of the Year award in front of Wayne Rooney.
Zlatan, who won first place in the championship, won 36.36% of the vote against 32.25% for DC United, while Carlos Vela of Los Angeles FC (13.47%).
Zlatan scored 22 goals and 10 assists, the third time he scored more than 20 goals and 10 assists in one season. Galaxy won 9 times and lost twice each time Zlatan scored a goal.
The award honors new players in the league but with previous work experience, which means inexperienced beginners are not eligible for the application.
Zlatan, who scored 500 career goals on Sept. 15, joined Argentina's Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the third best player to achieve a similar feat.
Zlatan has not managed to lead his team to the play-offs, but his career has been rich in achievements with Barcelona, Paris St Germain and Inter Milan. He scored 62 international goals and participated in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
Rooney scored 12 goals in 21 appearances for DC United after qualifying for the playoffs last July, defeating Zlatan by voting for the coaches. Zlatan should play with players and journalists.
