DUBAI (Reuters) – The Majlis al-Shura (Iran's parliament) has approved the appointment of four new ministers to take over the portfolios of the economic group before the second phase of US sanctions on Nov. 4.
During two meetings held on Saturday and Saturday night, the Iranian parliament gave confidence to the four ministers proposed by the government of President Hassan Rowhani to succeed ministers who had been dismissed earlier after members of the Council of Shura had blocked their trust because of their unsatisfactory performance.
According to the official IRNA agency, the new appointments concerned ministries of the economy and finance, industry, mining and trade, cooperation, labor and social roads and urban construction.
Farhad Dej Besand, Minister of Economy and Finance, Reza Rahmani, Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, Mohammad Eslami, Ministry of Roads, and Mohammad Shariatmadari, Ministry of Cooperation, Labor and Social Affairs.
This occurred in two meetings held by the Islamic Consultative Assembly on Saturday afternoon and Saturday evening, in the presence of Iranian President Hassan Rowhani, to discuss the eligibility of four ministerial portfolios.
The second phase of US sanctions on Iran will come into effect on November 4. It will include companies operating Iranian ports, transport and shipbuilding companies, comprehensive sanctions against the Iranian energy sector, particularly the oil sector, and sanctions against Iran.
