International Monetary Fund director Christine Lagarde said central banks should consider issuing digital currencies as money was at a "historic turning point" and central banks had a role to play in achieving savings for the digital economy.
Lagarde said the central bank supported digital currency could help strengthen financial inclusion, security and payment confidentiality as an inexpensive and efficient alternative to paper tickets. But he also warned of the risks to financial stability and innovation.
