New tests show that the batteries of our smartphones are deteriorating

Today, you may think that our phones have become smarter and more powerful and that simple and basic features, such as battery, have also been improved. Although we are seeing some changes, such as the introduction of fast charge technology, the total battery life seems to be decreasing, at least according to a test by Geoffrey A. Fowler of the Washington Post.

During his test, Geoffrey A. Fowler analyzed up to 13 devices marketed between 2017 and 2018 and tested the battery life of all these devices. Based on its findings, the flagship phones of 2018 appeared to have a shorter battery life than 2017, suggesting that the batteries on our smartphones could not keep up with performance.

For example, the battery of the iPhone XS Max lasted 10 hours and 6 minutes, but that of the iPhone 8 Plus, launched in 2017, was 10 hours to 10 minutes. The difference of four minutes corresponds to a possibility of error, but when the battery life of the Google Pixel 3 phone was tested a few weeks ago, it turned out to be 8 hours 28 minutes, while both Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 2 XL were released last year from 9 hours 57 minutes, 9 hours and 26 minutes respectively.

However, it should be noted that in Geoffrey A. Fowler's tests, battery life is measured by web browsing. As we do more than just surf the web on our smartphones, we say that these tests are not accurate, but they are disturbing. All smartphones do not do this: the iPhone XR, for example, comes out 12 hours and 25 minutes, followed by the Galaxy Note 9 at 12 o'clock, or more than 3 hours compared to the Galaxy S9.
