Benghazi, Libya (Reuters) – Libya is producing up to 1.3 million barrels a day of crude oil, Mustapha Sinnallah, head of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC), told Reuters on Wednesday.

Production ranges from 1.25 to 1.27 million barrels a day and can reach 1.3 million barrels a day.

He commented on the sidelines of a conference on oil in the city of Benghazi, saying that production "sometimes increases and sometimes decreases due to maintenance conditions".

According to Reuters estimates, current production levels remain below production levels of the OPEC member country before the civil war, which was about 1.6 million barrels a day. But production is at its highest level since mid-2013.

At the same time, an Al Waha Oil Company executive told Reuters that the company, in which the state holds a majority stake, would produce about 300,000 barrels a day.

The Arab Gulf Oil Company (AGCO), another unit of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), plans to solve the electricity supply problems by the end of 2019 by building a 37 megawatt power plant, a said the president of the company, Mohamed Ben Shtwan.

He added that three new turbines were being processed, but declined to mention the volume of production.

Agoku was suffering from electricity problems and inadequate financing of the operating budget, like other operators in the country, as well as general supply problems in Libya.

The oil deposit in the southeast is Agoku's main asset.

Production has been interrupted from time to time since the ousting of Muammar Gaddafi due to demonstrations and closures imposed by armed groups or personnel, as well as the outbreak of violence.

There have been recent limited protests in some areas and businesses to raise wages, while workers in the oil and other industries are suffering from high inflation.
