Samsung and ARM announce a new partnership for Cortex Using the 7nm LPP manufacturing process and then proceed to the 5nm LPE manufacturing process. These processors will excel at speeds above 3GHz.
Initial production of processors using 7nm LPP is expected to begin in the second half of this year. Meanwhile, the first Ultra Ultra Violet manufacturing process is under development and should be ready in the first half of the year. This will allow 5nm processors to become smaller and more energy efficient compared to their counterparts manufactured using a 7nm process.
ARM indicates that the Cortex-A76, 3.0 GHz, 7 nm processor will be 35% faster than the 2.8 GHz Cortex-A75 core, manufactured using a 10 nanometer process. During these events, they will be 40% more energy efficient. ARM describes the new Coretex-A76 core as the same level of cores as those used in laptops. It is therefore likely that we will see it in processors used in larger and more powerful devices, not just in smartphones.
ARM will provide its own IP library to help processor manufacturers market their products as soon as possible, but neither ARM nor Samsung will mention the massive production of processors with Cortex-A76 processors. Whatever the case may be, Samsung has demonstrated its long-term track record, which includes the transition to a 3nm manufacturing process using Gate All Around Early Technology.
