Saudi Arabia's telecommunications minister, Abdullah Al-Sawah, has announced plans to commercially launch fifth-generation service in Saudi Arabia by 2019.

Al-Sawah told CNBC on Wednesday on the sidelines of the Dubai Telecommunications Regulatory Authority's (TRA) conference that the Kingdom was ahead of the 5th generation in the Middle East.

The Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Saudi Arabia is working with the International Telecommunication Union on a new initiative on artificial intelligence and how to attempt it.

A report from the Saudi Commission for Information and Communication Technologies (CTS) on measuring the performance of mobile Internet service providers by 3G and 4G technologies has shown that the rate of Internet download mobile was 19.3 Mbps in the first quarter of 2018.
