HONG KONG (Reuters) – Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson will lead the Philippines to the Suzuki Cup next month and to the finals of the Asian Cup early next year in the UAE.

The 70-year-old coach, recently a candidate for Iraq or Cameroon, is expected to arrive in the Philippines in a few days to organize a training camp ahead of the Suzuki Regional Cup, which will begin November 8th. .

"One of the greatest coaches in history, Sven-Goran Eriksson, will lead the national team to the Suzuki and Asian Cups," said the director of the Philippine National Team, Dan Palamy, during the Suzuki Cup tour in Manila on Saturday.

"I'm sure he'll be a great addition to the team and I'm sure players will learn a lot from him, he'll work alongside our coach Scott Cooper."

Eriksson will train the Philippines two months after Terry Butcher's resignation without any training.

The Philippines will play the Suzuki Cup with Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and East Timor before participating in the Asian Cup for the first time and competing in the group stage alongside South Korea, China and Kyrgyzstan.
