The US Treasury is expected to borrow $ 329 billion in the third quarter after borrowing $ 72 billion in the second quarter via credit markets.
The expected third-quarter borrowing figure is $ 56 billion higher than previous estimates.
According to a senior ministry official, third-quarter borrowing is the highest since 2010 and the fourth highest between July and the end of September.
