Despite Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick Wanting to be part of the company, the board is considering not letting Kalanick announce the opening bell on May 10, Uber's first trading day, reports Axios. Kalanick also wants to bring his father, reports the New York Times.
In addition, the co-founders of Kalanick, Ryan Graves and Garrett Camp, may not be allowed to ring on the balcony.
Uber would not be what he is today without Kalanick, but his presence would surely be a reminder of Uber's rocky past. Nevertheless, Matt Cohler, Benchmark's partner, wants Kalanick and his co-founders to be present, according to Axios. Instead of joining Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, and other Uber executives on the balcony, Kalanick will only be able to attend the New York Stock Exchange with other members of the company's board of directors.
Kalanick left Uber in 2017 as a result of shareholder pressure to do so. This occurred shortly after Kalanick took a leave following allegations of sexual harassment from former Uber engineer Susan Fowler Rigetti.
