Uber Copter: Fly from Manhattan to JFK with Uber

[ad_1]

Uber is expanding beyond traditional ridesharing in New York and will soon be offering a helicopter service, giving BLADE a competitive advantage.

What is BLADE?

For those of you who do not know BLADE, it's basically a technology company and an air services broker, because they sell seats on helicopter and propeller services on all types of markets.

Recently, they pushed their business to the next level, when BLADE began offering continuous weekday helicopter service between Manhattan and the three New York area airports (EWR, LGA and JFK).

They have a fixed price of $ 195 per direction, although with a promotion code, you can travel with them for only $ 120.

If they say that their price is already comparable to that of a luxury car service between the city and the airports, they still hope to lower their rates in the coming years.

Meet Uber Copter

Well, it seems that Uber is ready to give BLADE a chance, with the introduction of Uber Copter.

Effective July 9, 2019, Uber will offer a helicopter service between Manhattan and JFK.. The trip should take eight minutes in each direction.

Initially, this will only be available for Uber Platinum and Diamond members, but I imagine that with time, this will expand to everyone. To be rewarded, Platinum status requires 2,500 points, which equates to approximately $ 833-2,500 in annual expenses, while Diamant status requires 7,500 points, which corresponds to annual expenses of $ 2,500 to $ 7,500. .

There are some things that make Uber Copter different from BLADE, however:

  • Uber says rates will start at $ 200, although they have dynamic pricing
  • Uber includes the cost of an Uber to get to the heliport in the fare, which BLADE does not
  • Uber's weight limit for hand luggage is 40 pounds, compared to the 25-pound BLADE limit.
  • For the moment, Uber only offers an afternoon service during the week, unlike BLADE's continuous weekday service.

Bottom line

It seems that the space between the airport helicopter from Manhattan to New York airport becomes congested. I'll be curious to see what it looks like when it's launched. In particular, I wonder if Uber is simply contracting with different helicopter companies or if some helicopter companies could work with BLADE and Uber.

Would you like to choose BLADE or Uber Copter between Manhattan and JFK?
